Whether a breathless beginner or well-trained mountain athlete: In the Tannheimer Tal, everyone who likes to move in fresh air and explore the surrounding mountains on foot gets their money's worth. All active people, from hobby athletes to professionals, have plenty of choice every day: The largest network of trails in Tyrol offers 26 marked routes extending over a total of 186 kilometers. There are beginner loops as well as demanding mountain runs. And so that all guests know which path suits their fitness and requirements, a specially designed map and small signs provide information about elevation profile, difficulty level, and length of the trail - the running and Nordic walking map.
Along meadows, over green alpine pastures, by sparkling mountain lakes... Walking and running in the Tannheimer Tal is not only the best training for the body but also balm for the soul. The starting points for all those eager to move are located in the six villages Tannheim, Grän-Haldensee, Nesselwängle-Haller, Zöblen, Schattwald, and Jungholz. From here, walkers, Nordic walkers, and runners follow the signposts. They are easy to recognize: little figures with poles. Moreover, all routes, just like ski slopes, are classified into the categories black, red, and blue. This optimal marking contributed, among other things, to the fact that Europe’s probably most beautiful high valley has been officially called the "Running and Walking Competence Center" since 2005.
Head straight south to the Maria Hilf Chapel. Turn right and at the next fork head south past the shooting range and soccer field onto the forest path. Then take the paved path to the Vilsalpsee. The lake is circled along the west shore and on the paved path heading north to the bridge. Turn right there, above the Schmieden district towards the gondola lift. Go under the lift and head west into the village of Tannheim. At the intersection, head north and return to the starting point via the roundabout.

Personal equipment must be safe and functional and comply with the respective technical standards. It is recommended that everyone inform themselves about the planned routes in specialist literature or on site. Full equipment is strongly recommended even for experienced individuals!
It should be noted that running and walking sports can carry an increased risk of accidents and injuries. Despite careful route planning, a basic risk always remains. Preparing routes through endurance training, appropriate technical training, further education, and personal caution reduces the risk of accidents and hazards.
