St. Georgen am Kreischberg

The municipality of St. Georgen am Kreischberg with 1,880 inhabitants consists of the districts St. Georgen, St. Lorenzen, Lutzmannsdorf, Kaindorf, Bodendorf, St. Ruprecht and Falkendorf and offers you a wide range of leisure activities as well as peace, relaxation and recreation.

The Kreischberg with 13 lifts and 42 km of slopes is a paradise for winter sports enthusiasts in winter. It offers everything from beginner's slopes to family slopes and special downhill runs for the more adventurous.

The currently largest cantilever wooden bridge in Europe connects St. Georgen with St. Lorenzen and is a masterpiece of Styrian timber construction.

After a walk of about 1h 15 min from St. Georgen you reach the Cäciliakirche, a small gothic jewel. Worth seeing are the gothic wooden ceiling from around 1500 and the frescos from the 14th and 15th century as well as the frescos on the outer wall from the 15th century (Master v. Schöder). Also worth mentioning is the plain pulpit.

The Wood Museum in St. Ruprecht invites you on an exciting journey through time! This takes visitors through historical workshops, impressively demonstrates the achievements of modern design and timber construction. Here one knows how valuable the raw material wood is and conveys this since 1988 on 10.000m².
