The Ströhberne Bridge is one of the most distinctive historic landmarks in the Lipizzanerheimat. This protected wooden bridge was built in 1816, a date that can still be seen carved into one of its timber posts.
Originally spanning the Teigitsch stream, the approximately 14-metre-long bridge served as an important connection between the communities of Edelschrott, Modriach and St. Martin am Wöllmißberg. A remarkable amount of the original timber structure from the time of its construction has been preserved to this day.
During the construction of the Hirzmann Dam, the bridge was dismantled in 1949 and rebuilt around 30 metres south of its original location across the Guggibach stream. When the water level of the Hirzmann Reservoir is low, traces of the former bridge site can still be seen.
The bridge takes its name from its former straw-covered roof, which gave the structure its distinctive appearance for generations. Today, the Ströhberne Bridge remains a popular photo spot and a charming destination near the Hirzmann Reservoir.
With its traditional craftsmanship, fascinating history and idyllic natural setting, the Ströhberne Bridge is one of the region's most remarkable cultural monuments.
