Between the starting point Lend in the Salzach valley and the end point Goldegg, there are large differences. The most measurable is the altitude difference, which is 200 meters. But there are also noticeable values, such as the duration of sunshine or the available space. Naturally, the Goldegg sun terrace scores well, but the industrial town of Lend also has its advantages. The mighty waterfall is especially visible from our path, as is the aluminum plant in front of it. The extensively available hydropower is also the reason why this energy-intensive industry settled here in 1898. Both places are definitely important. They are connected by a surprisingly sunny path, which perhaps has its best time in late autumn or spring. Or even in winter, because the route follows continuously cleared access roads. And in Goldegg, the winter annual cycle with markets, the possibly frozen lake, and the inviting castle is especially atmospheric.
From Lend station the path leads a few meters towards the town, then turns right over the railway tracks and immediately follows the signed route to Goldegg on the right-hand side. The narrow mountain road quickly gains altitude; the “Achtalgut” junction is disregarded. Rather, the path passes by Halbenhubbauer and then reaches the first namesake stop in Buchbergdörfl (828 m), which is regularly served by bus 582 and the Goldegg Shuttle. The route runs almost level, or even slightly downhill, past the golf course into the Altenhof district. Along the wide right-hand bend, the density of houses increases before the center is actually reached; here, the right-hand junction towards Oberhof is recommended. After a few meters, the path turns left to a picturesque lake, which from this side brings the village-castle-church ensemble most photogenically into focus. The Goldegg Castle bus stop is located at the entrance to the castle parking lot.

By bus, S 3 or REX to Lend station. Return from Goldegg in Pongau Goldegg Castle by bus 580 or with the Goldegg Shuttle to Schwarzach-St. Veit station (forecourt) and further by train.
