Großarl: Heukareck

At the Holzlehen transmission station stands the "Himmelsknoten". This is a monument of the old Scouts Guild. From here, a forest road leads to the Niggeltalalm. A beautiful water wheel that was used earlier for churning butter is at the stream in front of the hut. Here you can enjoy homemade delicacies like bread, butter, cheese, bacon, and sausage as well as cake while enjoying the sun.

You continue hiking on a beautiful alpine path and cross the Igltal, where particularly many different flowers bloom in early summer. The Igltal is also one of the wildest areas in our valley and it can happen that you spot a chamois. The path continues past Tennköpfel and leads further to the Heukareck. From here you have a wonderful view of the Salzach valley – you can see as far as Oberpinzgau and, if the weather is very clear, even to the city of Salzburg.
