Colorful views and vistas in the golden hiking autumn!
Golden leaves, red-yellow-brown glowing landscapes: At this sight, all troubles and worries are blown away by the gentle autumn wind. In Ahorntal, as Ramsau am Dachstein is also known, the most beautiful hiking season begins when the trees put on their radiant festive garb. The colorful backdrop gives hikes an additional attraction: the entire plateau and the alpine pasture region shine in the graceful blaze of color. Over 200 kilometers of marked hiking trails await!
Autumn walks and hikes here are under the motto “Views and sights” on the three levels of Ramsau am Dachstein. Above the Ramsau high plateau, the alpine pastures in front of the imposing south faces of the Dachstein form a charming adventure area. The special thing about this landscape is the direct transition from the green alpine pastures to the scree cirques of the south faces. This landscape at the foot of the light limestone cliffs is characterized by a striking number of larch forests. Usually from the 2nd week of October, the larches begin to turn yellow, opening one of the most beautiful hiking seasons of the year. Many mountain huts are open until the end of October.
A well-earned break in cozy huts and inns with their sunny terraces is simply part of hiking. Fortified with home cooking and regional delicacies, the hiking experience also becomes a culinary event.
The Dachstein cattle drive is a traditional rural event. When the alpine summer has come to a good end, farmers, herdsmen and dairymen celebrate a magnificent festival of thanks. Adorned with cattle decorations and wooden models, cattle, sheep and horses are driven back from the mountain pastures to their stables in the village. A lively spectacle that you have to experience!
