The Frachiamo mule track (dated 1872 in an engraving) climbs a steep slope and was built by overcoming a large scree in the first part, creating a homogeneous and wide walking surface through impressive stone arrangements.
Shortly after, there is a small building, closed on three sides, which was used as a resting place during the transport of the deceased between Frachiamo and Sparone: for this reason called the "Mortuary Deposit". Beyond that is a votive pillar with frescoes by Silvestro da Montanaro.
Climbing, there is a beautiful high view of the Rocca di Sparone and part of the lower Orco Valley.
At Frachiamo, the route ends in the sunny square of the church.
Returning to Sparone, it is highly recommended to briefly climb the hill hosting the Rocca di Sparone (older than year 1000, where the historic siege by Arduino between 1004 and 1005 by the Teutonic militias took place) and the adjacent church of Santa Croce.
Arriving from the center of Sparone, after crossing the bridge over the Rio Ribordone, turn left (signs for Santa Croce church), continue along the small road to a fork: turn left (signs for Frachiamo) and then right onto a beautiful mule track. The route climbs steeply, first in zig-zags, then along the rocky part, and finally through a small wood to emerge onto an asphalt road. Climb the carriage road for about one kilometer. The path through the forest is picked up again after the first hairpin bend, passing beside a votive pillar. Then return to the road for a short stretch. At the height of a hairpin bend, go beyond the wall and walk alongside the road for a few meters before turning right onto a path to follow to Frachiamo church.
The return journey follows the same itinerary. At the initial fork, turn left to climb to the Rocca di Sparone and then return on the same small road.
Da
Non-slip sole shoes, wind/rain protection, and water supply are recommended.
The shortcuts at the hairpin bends of the road below Frachiamo can be avoided by continuing to walk on asphalt in case of very wet ground or little confidence with steep sections.
From state road 460, follow the signs for the center of Sparone
