VALPERGA Sacro Monte di Belmonte Loop

From via Mazzini, go along the parish church and continue straight passing under a porch where the route begins. Climb among the houses, pass by the church of S. Aventino (near a hairpin bend) until you reach the church of San Giorgio. Continue passing under the castle and then, after a slight descent, you join a wider paved road: continue bending shortly after to the right, passing through fields to a parking lot with a notice board. At the next fork keep left (signs present) upwards. Shortly after the cobblestones begin, first passing under the church of Santa Apollonia and then following the road interspersed with pilons (do NOT take path 421 on the right). You then reach the sanctuary. Descend the staircase and turn left on asphalt to reach a large square, continue a little further and leave the asphalt for a small path to begin the Sacro Monte route. After finishing the devotional route, return to the Sanctuary, at the second hairpin turn take the path on the right (marked 423, Belmonte - Oropa route). The path then descends steeply and reaches a fork: turn right onto path 1. The path continues, with ups and downs, first in the woods and then on a more open and rocky slope that ends on a flat path. Follow it turning right until the houses of Pemonte. Having reached the paved road turn right uphill and shortly after turn left onto a small road that enters the woods. With ups and downs you reach a series of wooden walkways to bypass the wettest areas. At a villa the path descends and joins a small road. Continuing you thus reach the parking lot previously encountered at the start: turn left and retrace the route backwards passing under the castle and the church of San Giorgio.

Non-slip sole footwear, wind/rain protection, a warm layer (winter), hat and sunglasses (warm season) are recommended.

In the wooded part on the northern slope of the hill, crossing the wet areas on the wooden walkways can be slippery in winter due to possible ice. In the same areas, after rainy periods, there may be a high presence of mud.

In summer the uphill Via Crucis can be very hot due to exposure: avoid the central hours of the day.

From Turin take the highway to Caselle airport, take exit 3 for SR 460 which leads to Rivarolo, continue on the road past Salassa and then turn left following the signs for Valperga. 

Valperga is on the sfm1 line (Pont - Rivarolo - Chieri) with train service up to Rivarolo, where you change to a bus (until the electrification works on the line are finished)
