Winter hike to Gamperfin on the Oberdorf - Gamperfin - trail

Take the chairlift from Wildhaus comfortably up to Oberdorf. Then follow the trail signs. At the beginning of the hike, the path leads up the slope on the left side of the Tellerskilift. Soon the path turns into the forest, and with every step, it becomes quieter. You find yourself in another world. The alpine pastures are untouched in winter, only the tracks of chamois, deer, hares, and foxes decorate the snow. Passing by bright forests and snow-covered alpine huts, you hike through a gentle, hilly winter landscape.

On the opposite side of the valley, the Alpstein massif is visible with Säntis and the Wildhaus Schafberg featuring the distinctive Schafbergwall. Soon you reach the Ölberg. It’s worth pausing to let your gaze wander over the Alvier group, which appears alpine from here. The hike is also worthwhile in less good weather, when the mist hangs mystically in the spruces or the snowflakes fall quietly. About halfway through the circular route, you reach the day's goal – the Skiclub Grabserberg hut at Gamperfin. A warm drink revives the spirits for the return journey. With new energy, you hike back past Lochgatter and the Ölberg to Oberdorf. Here you end the beautiful day with a fine afternoon snack before taking the chairlift back down to the valley.

As an alternative to hiking to Gamperfin, there are three shorter loops of 2.4 km, 3.1 km, and 4.2 km that lead back to Oberdorf.

Day hiking backpack (approx. 20 liters) with rain cover, comfortable and waterproof winter boots or sturdy hiking boots, if necessary crampons and gaiters, warm and weatherproof clothing in layers, hat/headband, scarf, gloves, sun and rain protection, provisions and drinking water, thermos with hot drink, first aid kit, pocket knife, mobile phone, if necessary headlamp, map material, if necessary telescopic poles

- From the Zurich metropolitan area and Central Switzerland:
On the A3 at Reichenburg towards Rapperswil and then via the Rickenpass to Wattwil. Afterwards up the Toggenburg to Wildhaus Munzenriet.

- From Eastern Switzerland:
From St. Gallen to Herisau and then via Wasserfluh to Lichtensteig. Or from St. Gallen to Wil, take the Toggenburg exit. Follow the main road to Wildhaus Munzenriet.

- From southern Germany:
Via Bregenz and St. Margrethen on the A13 to Haag and take the exit towards Toggenburg/Wildhaus. Or via Konstanz to Wil, then take the Toggenburg exit and follow the main road to Wildhaus Munzenriet.

By train to Nesslau Neu St. Johann station and then by bus to Wildhaus Lisighaus.

From the Rhine Valley by train to Buchs SG station and then by bus to Wildhaus Lisighaus.

Free parking is available at the large Munzenriet car park.
