The Muikkupuro wilderness route runs through the typical hilly ridge terrain of Hossa National Park, opening up stunning views of majestic pine forests and ice-covered lakes. Among the orange-sided pines along the route, grey dead trees dressed in a blanket of snow stand out here and there.
The machine-maintained multi-use trail is suitable for walking, snowshoeing, skiing or cycling. The one-way route ends at the scenic Muikkupuro lean-to shelter, beside a clear-flowing stream that stays open also in winter. The trail has a few steep climbs and descents, but due to its length and the well-equipped resting spot, the route is very suitable for a day trip. The most demanding uphill and downhill can be avoided by taking the maintenance trail that follows the shore of Iso-Valkeainen. See the detailed accessibility description on the Accessibility tab.
The wilderness trail's track starts from the Hossalaislampien parking area. The machine-maintained track runs through hilly forest terrain with elevation changes about 1.5 kilometers to Muikkupuro. About a kilometer after the start, a separate maintenance track branches off to the right towards the shore of Iso-Valkeinen. The main trail continues straight, but you can also reach Muikkupuro via the maintenance track. This avoids the most demanding uphill and downhill on the trail. The Muikkupuro lean-to provides good shelter for a break and enjoying snacks. The path to the dry toilet is not maintained in winter. The beginning of the return trip can be done either along the main trail or via the maintenance track.

Accessible from January to late April by skiing, snowshoeing, fat biking, or walking. Dog companions are allowed on the trails as long as they are kept on a leash.
Maintenance of wilderness routes begins in January and they are groomed at least once a week. In April, the trail surface usually begins to soften, and that is when skiing or snowshoeing is best for moving around.
