The hike from Heiligenblut leads over the Tümpfenweg into the Große Fleißtal, where marmots, chamois, bearded vultures and golden eagles can be well observed on the mountain slopes. A stop at the rustic Fleißkuchl invites you to rest.
From the village center, we first follow the 2nd stage of the Alpe-Adria Trail to the Fleißkehre. The path leads past ancient farmhouses with lovingly designed gardens. Shortly after the turnoff into the Fleiß valleys, we choose the Tümpfenweg alongside the wild rushing Großfleißbach. This ascent is somewhat steeper but very beautiful and worthwhile. Before the valley station of the Fleißalmbahn (winter operation only), we reach a farm road, which leads to the Fleißkuchl. Now a relatively level path winds further into the valley end, where you can continue your hike to the Schareck (approx. 2.5 hours), the Otto-Umlauft bivouac box (3-4 hours) or the Hocharn (5 hours).
We choose the same route back to the Fleißkuchl here, stop there, before continuing the hike back into the valley.
