Bike bus route from Spittal an der Drau to Lake Ossiach

From Spittal to Paternion: 

The starting point is the Spittal an der Drau train station; east of the station you will find the first marking for the Drau Cycle Path. You follow Bismarckstraße, then turn left into Ortenburgstraße and then right into Jahnstraße. At the Brückenwirt you cross the Lieser and then cycle right along Höllgasse (one-way street), cross the railway and then turn left. Continue over Südbahnstraße to Tangerner Weg. Now you leave Spittal and leisurely head towards St. Peter. Just before St. Peter, first turn right, then left. You cycle under the motorway. Then turn left towards Molzbichl, cross the railway, pass under the federal road, and continue. After the motorway underpass, you cycle briefly next to the motorway. After about 3 km, the motorway changes riverbank and you cycle directly along the river again. After about 700 m, you pass under the Mauthbrücken bridge, along the dam to Paternion.

From Paternion to Villach: Shortly before the Drau bridge at Feistritz, the dam path bends to the right but then returns to the riverbank. Just after the underpass, cross a small bridge, pass a wood lot. Then simply cycle over the stream, always keep left and continue straight to the main road. Now you go downstream along the river to Pobersach.
The Drau now begins to form wide loops. The course follows these meanders. A little later, you reach Kellerberg on the dam crest.

Kellerberg: Here, after the bridge, you continue along the right bank of the Drau, always following the river's bends. The confluences of smaller streams into the Drau make themselves noticeable here by ground waves. After about 4 km you reach the Drau bridge at Töplitsch. Now you must switch to the left bank of the Drau.

Töplitsch: Töplitsch lies on the right side. However, you follow the cycle path over the Drau along the railway. Now you must keep left and follow the loop under the bridge. You are back by the riverbank. After the narrow valley, the hills become flatter and the valley opens. You pass the Marble Mill Gersheim until you finally reach the Fellach power plant.

Fellach power plant: Now you can choose on which riverbank you want to cycle into the center of Villach. Both cycle paths are paved and always run close to the riverbank. Halfway there is even the option to cross back to the other side via a footbridge.

Villach to Lake Ossiach: After a short detour in the Villach city center, continue along the Drau to the red Peace Bridge. From there, continue on side roads to Landskron and to the western shore of Lake Ossiach. From there, you can either continue along the southern shore to Heiligengestade, Ostriach, and Ossiach or via the northern shore to Annenheim, Sattendorf, St. Urban, Bodensdorf, Steindorf, and Tiffen.
