Visible from afar on the water, green information boards mark the entry and exit points or rest areas specially designated for water hikers. Landing paddle boats is only permitted at these points. The entry and exit point Löhnberg-Bahnhof is located on the right side of the Lahn at Seltersweg. First, you paddle through the self-service lock on the opposite side. At Ahhausen, you reach the urban area of the residential town Weilburg. In Weilburg, you pass under the railway bridge and have two exit options: The entry and exit point Weilburg-Bleiche is on the left bank of the Lahn behind the Weilburg ship tunnel. The entry and exit point Weilburg boat slipway is on the right side of the river behind the road bridge.

Oprema

Paddling is fun in any weather. Protect yourself in cool and damp conditions with a water- and windproof jacket with hood.

In sunshine, the intensity of the sun is often underestimated because on the water it feels pleasantly cool. Protect yourself with a head covering against too strong sun exposure. Shoes do not have to be pretty, but above all fit firmly. The best are lace-up, sports, or special paddling shoes.

For storing spare clothing and valuables, waterproof barrels or dry bags are recommended. If you book your route through a canoe tour operator, they will provide these for you. Store your electronic devices only in waterproof containers!

Varnostna navodila

The Lahn must not be navigated when reaching the HWS (Highest Water Shipping level)! The HWS is a precursor to flooding. You can find the current Lahn water levels here. A brief explanation of the gauge displays is provided here.

At the QMW canoe label (Quality Management Water Tourism), you recognize certified providers of canoe tours and rentals. This award is given to companies that stand for the preservation of nature and water landscapes and offer their guests safe and professional quality. The companies work with trained staff, have environmentally compatible operations, and continuously optimize safety and practical guides for their guests. These companies definitely provide you with life jackets free of charge, as safety should cost nothing!

Always wear life jackets when you are on the water, and especially make sure no child sits in the canoe without a life jacket.

If you are traveling with a canoe tour operator, have yourself thoroughly instructed in canoeing. Have a river description given to you that you can take along on your river trip. The river description should provide information about all entry and exit points, rest and overnight places, as well as special natural areas marked on a map. Additionally, you should be briefed on the particularities of the nature of the respective river. If you are on your own, obtain maps that contain this necessary information. The latest regulations for protected areas can be found in the section "Current Information".
