It is not easy to say goodbye to Wetzlar with its picturesque old town. But other cultural and historical highlights await to be discovered. From Wetzlar train station, the Lahn cycle path runs along the right bank of the Lahn through the city of Goethe and optics. It continues, by the way still very comfortably and without noticeable inclines, sometimes on the left, sometimes on the right side of the Lahn via Solms, Leun and Löhnberg to Weilburg. A visit to the baroque castle complex of the residential city is definitely a "must". And you should also check out the oldest and longest navigable ship tunnel still in use today. Like Wetzlar, Weilburg also has a lot to offer.
From the train station, the Lahn cycle path runs along the right bank of the Lahn. If you don't know Wetzlar yet, you should keep left at the Hospitalkirche and make a detour to the other side of the Lahn via the old Lahn bridge. Here, with the cathedral and the picturesque old town, beats the heart of the Goethe and optics city. Goethe can be encountered at every turn, and an optics trail testifies to Wetzlar's importance for the optical industry.
But now back to the Lahn cycle path. From the Hospitalkirche, it continues along the right side of the Lahn, crosses the small river Dill, and then continues to Solms-Oberbiel. The Altenberg monastery invites to another detour, and anyone who dares an additional 6 kilometers on a quiet side road should definitely visit the Grube Fortuna visitor mine here. And of course plan some time for a guided tour.
At Oberbiel, you then switch the side of the Lahn at the lock house and cycle through the floodplains to Solms. The town is crossed at its northern edge. In Leun, you also stay on the left side of the Lahn and continue over the new roundabout to Tiefenbach. From Tiefenbach, the route continues again on the right side of the Lahn. Via Löhnberg, where you change sides of the Lahn again, you continue to Ahausen, cross the Lahn once more, and are almost at Weilburg train station. The short stage still leaves plenty of time for an extensive city tour.
