A highlight awaits the hiker right at the beginning. The old town of Limburg from the 12th century is almost completely preserved. On a rock with seven towers stands the landmark of the city - the Limburg Cathedral. Even if it is hard to leave Limburg: it's worth it! Runkel with its massive castle complex above the lock and the old bridge is fascinating. It is also particularly beautiful above the Wehrley nature reserve. The "Wehrley" has been a nature reserve since 1978. And to finish, the Lahn Marble Museum in Villmar. Hiking heart, what more do you want?
This stage starts with a real highlight: it leads through the medieval half-timbered town of Limburg with its picturesque alleys. First, the path goes up to the Limburg Cathedral, which dominates the city from a rock. Downstairs, you descend via stairs to Römer 2-4-6, one of the oldest freestanding half-timbered houses in Germany. Along the Lahn, you walk on an old towpath towards Eschhofen.
Then you continue through the Lahn meadows to Eschhofen. Behind Eschhofen, the view falls on the gigantic Church of St. Lubentius in Dietkirchen. The initially still wide forest path becomes a narrow trail shortly before Runkel, passing the Blücher Schanze. With Runkel, the hiker encounters another medieval town. Here, you should definitely visit the massive castle complex.
Cross the venerable bridge over the Lahn and go up to the Otto-Bruchhäuser-Temple, a viewing pavilion high above the Lahn. The path again becomes a trail and leads idyllically above the Wehrley nature reserve. A short detour to the right takes us to a worthwhile viewpoint with views across to Bodensteiner Lay and the King Konrad Monument. Following the yellow-marked connecting path, you go down to Villmar. Here, a visit to the Lahn Marble Museum and the Unica Marble Quarry is recommended.
