The current carries you further towards the Limburger Basin. On this quiet section of the Lahn, there are no locks and plenty of nature.
From the water, visible from afar, green information boards mark entry and exit points or rest areas specially designated for water hikers. Landing paddle boats is only allowed at these points. The start and end of a boating trip is only possible at entry and exit points. Rest areas can only be reached from the water; there is no car access.
All designated entry and exit points and rest areas along the Lahn with the available infrastructure can be found on the overview map.

The entry and exit point Runkel-Campingplatz is located on the left bank of the Lahn. After paddling under the road bridge, you look left at the steep wooded slopes of the Runkeler Laach nature reserve. While the landscape on the right bank of the Lahn is shaped by medium-sized businesses, the left side remains close to nature. After 5.6 kilometers, you reach the entry and exit point Runkel-Dehrn on the right side of the Lahn. From here, the stretch is also navigable for motorboats.
Paddling is fun in any weather. Protect yourself in cool and damp weather with a water- and windproof jacket with hood.
In sunshine, the intensity of the sun is often underestimated because it feels pleasantly cool on the water. Protect yourself with a head covering against strong sun exposure. Shoes don't have to look good but must fit securely. The best are lace-up, sports, or special paddling shoes.
For storing spare clothing and valuables, waterproof barrels or dry bags are recommended. If you book your route through a canoe tour operator, they will provide them for you. Store your electronic devices only in waterproof containers!
The Lahn may not be navigated when reaching the HWS (Highest Navigable Water Level)! The HWS is a precursor to flooding. You can find the current Lahn water levels here. A brief explanation of the gauge displays can be found here.
With the QMW-canoe seal (Quality Management Water Tourism), you can recognize certified providers of canoe tours and rentals. This award goes to companies committed to preserving nature and water landscapes and offering guests safe and professional quality. These companies employ trained staff, run environmentally friendly operations, and continuously optimize safety and practical signage for their guests. These companies will definitely provide you with life jackets free of charge because safety should cost nothing!
Always wear life jackets when you are on the water, and make sure that no child is in the canoe without a life jacket.
If you are traveling with a canoe tour operator, make sure to have a thorough introduction to canoeing. Ask for a river description that you can take with you on your river trip. The river description should provide information on all entry and exit points, rest and overnight places, as well as special natural areas marked on a map. You should also be instructed about the special features of the nature of the respective river. If you go on your own, obtain maps containing this necessary information. The latest regulations of the protected areas can be found here under "Current Information".
