Opis

The starting point of this beautiful and varied bike tour is the magnificent Esterházy Palace in Eisenstadt, one of Austria's most beautiful Baroque palaces. The Festival Bike Path first leads flat to Trausdorf an der Wulka and then further to St. Margarethen with its famous quarry. Here, the route changes to the B10 connecting bike path via the Rust hill country – with corresponding ascents and descents through forest and vineyards – until it merges into the B10 Neusiedler See bike path, which takes us in a loop via Mörbisch along the reed belt first to Rust and then to Oggau. Here, we leave the bike path and reach Schützen am Gebirge after about 3 kilometers via Gartengasse and subsequently the “Schützen am Gebirge-Goldberg Fahrweg.” Here, the route meets the R1 anniversary bike path and leads back onto the B10 Neusiedler See bike path in Donnerskirchen, which we follow for the rest of the route. Flat, through the impressive landscape of the reed belt between the slopes of the Leithagebirge and the shore of the lake, through the picturesque communities of Purbach, Breitenbrunn, and Winden am See to Jois.

Hotel Galantha

With the opening of Galantha in 2022, Eisenstadt gained an elegant hotel of international stature. Weingut Franz Schindler

With his creation of the "Cuvée d’Or," Franz Schindler from Mörbisch pioneered Austrian red wine over 30 years ago. From the beginning, this noble drop made a name for itself in the wine scene and has been counted among Austria's best wines for many years. The philosophy of the house, to give great wines extended barrel aging and to bottle them later for sale, is repeatedly confirmed by top rankings in tastings.

Weingut Ernst Triebaumer

The Triebaumer family ushered in a new era of Austrian red wine over 30 years ago with the Blaufränkisch Mariental from 1986. The Feiler-Artinger winery is a family-run business deeply rooted in the region and the free city of Rust. Since 2013, Kurt Feiler together with his wife Katrin has been primarily responsible for the winery; biodynamic farming was introduced in 2008. Weigut Mad

A somewhat quirky vision and its implementation have always shaped the work of the large family in Oggau. They focus on the future without forgetting tradition and old craftsmanship. Sebastian and Tobias Siess took over the winery with about 34 hectares in 2018 and are working with great commitment on their goal to produce wines with character and depth.

Weingut Prieler

Georg Prieler has been among the top winemakers in Burgenland for years. With great intuition and sensitivity, he produces terroir-related wines that remain memorable. Goldberg, the undisputed best vineyard site of the house, offers barren mica schist and is predestined for Blaufränkisch, the most traditional and important variety. The Prieler family was named "Winemaker of the Year" in 2009.

Donnerskirchen

Weingut Liegenfeld

The Liegenfeld family has cultivated wine for generations in Donnerskirchen. Gut Purbach

Max Stiegl, born in Slovenia, is a restless and charismatic "jack of all trades." He is now focusing fully again on his family estate – to the benefit of guests for sure. Extravagant, bold, fish- and meat-oriented cuisine. Offal lovers come fully to their own – Stiegl's "Sautanz" is legendary. Carefully renovated guest rooms nearby and a small winery since recently also belong to the estate. A recommended gourmet experience, 4 Gault Millau hats.

https://www.gutpurbach.at

Restaurant Fossil

In this relatively new, chic, and cozy restaurant in the Keller Alley – an absolute gem with numerous historic wine cellars, a must see – Thomas Daniel Pugel serves lovingly composed and contemporarily interpreted Pannonian cuisine. Very good fish, selected local wines.

https://www.restaurant-fossil.at

Weingut Birgit Braunstein

On about 20 hectares, Birgit Braunstein fulfills a lifelong dream with terroir-specific wines. After switching to organic farming in 2006, she took the step to Demeter certification in 2009. Her grapes grow and ripen at Leithagebirge behind Purbach, where schist, shell limestone, and crystalline quartz form the perfect base for great wines. The main varieties are Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, and Pinot Noir among red wines and Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay among white wines. A great opportunity to taste the wines is the top restaurant Paulistuben of brother Paul and sister-in-law Alexandra.

The small detour from Jois to the lake is worth it. Located directly on the water – with bathing facilities – the Seejungfrau is completely surrounded by nature. The combination of café, restaurant, and barbecue bar offers a varied culinary selection all day. Joiser wines, local products, and a Pannonian-Mediterranean inspired cuisine provide enjoyment in a casual and relaxed atmosphere.

Since Leo Hillinger developed his parents' small wine trade into an Austrian leading company, his wines have become as popular as they are successful. The philosophy has been based on entirely organic farming and the latest cellar technology since 2010. Vineyards in the best sites in the Leithaberg region in northern Burgenland and the typical soil formations of the Leithagebirge create wines that proudly carry their origin.

https://www.leo-hillinger.com

Weingut Markus Altenburger

With much personal commitment and feeling, Markus Altenburger made the winery one of the most internationally recognized and exciting estates at Leithaberg within a few years. The wines grow on limestone composed of million-year-old marine fossils. With great respect for this terroir, Markus Altenburger works as naturally as possible; his style is unmistakable. The signature red wines consist of Blaufränkisch; the pure vineyard-specific wines from old vines in the Jungenberg and Gritschenberg vineyards are produced only in the best vintages and in small quantities. Regarding white wines, the Altenburger family focuses mainly on Chardonnay, Grüner Veltliner, and Neuburger.
