Rohrweg

The route starts at the hiking parking lot at K 1425 in immediate proximity to the Voralbbad with its well-maintained minigolf and pit-pat facilities. The path leads south along Hagweg to the popular alpaca farm. From there it goes east via Hasengasse past the Albverein hut to Lotenbergstraße. In Eschenbach, you hike to the "Old Station" and from there along the railway line to Rohrwasen. Here you can visit the idyllic bird watching spot and then return to the starting point.

Hiking boots: sturdy and comfortable shoes with good tread for secure grip. Weather-appropriate clothing: layered clothing depending on the weather, including rain jacket or sun protection. Backpack: small and light to carry the essentials. Water bottle: to stay hydrated, especially during longer hikes. Snacks: energy bars, nuts, or dried fruits for small breaks. Map or hiking app: for orientation on the route. First-aid kit: with plasters, bandages, and basic medications. Mobile phone: for emergencies and as navigation aid. Others: sunglasses, sunscreen, hat or gloves depending on the weather. 

 This list is designed for a short circular hike. For longer or more demanding routes, you should extend your equipment accordingly.

Take RE 5 or MEX 16 from Stuttgart or Ulm to Göppingen station. From there, lines 981, 983 and 984 run to the bus stop "Heiningen, Friedhof". From this stop, it is only a few minutes to the starting point of the route.

Observe the prohibition of entry to agriculturally used areas during the growing season. Stay on designated paths and avoid forest edges so wild animals can better get used to humans.

Water buffalo in the Rohrwasen wetland

The Rohrwasen wetland is an absolute natural oasis. Water buffalo are supposed to maintain the biotope between Heiningen and Eschenbach. Where they graze, there is more space again for frogs and light for dragonflies. Even the footprints of the animals create new habitats for small animals.

Bird watching station

A visit to the bird watching station at the Rohrwasen wetland between Heiningen and Eschenbach is worthwhile not only for bird watching – a bench invites you to relax and enjoy the evening sunset. Those who bring some time and peace can observe various bird species that breed or pass through here.

Alpaca farm

The alpaca farm with pasture is located between Heiningen and Eschenbach and is especially popular with families. On the farm, you can watch the calmness and serenity of the alpacas and be inspired by it. You will also learn a lot of interesting facts about this animal species.
