The hike from Schalb to Gruben via the Augstbordpass is a dreamlike route, conveniently accessible by public transport. Experience a high alpine borderline adventure between the Visp and Turtmann valleys. The tour starts spectacularly in Embd with the airy adventure railway to Alpe Schalb. From there, you steadily leave the tree line behind. Passing the historic Augstbord huts, the path leads up to the Augstbordpass (2893 m). There you will be greeted by an overwhelming panorama of the Valais four-thousanders, before the descent leads you into the untouched silence of Gruben – a true piece of original Valais for those with good stamina.

A usual hiking equipment is recommended. For the mountain tour, particular attention should be paid to sturdy, suitable footwear. In sunny conditions, appropriate sun protection is also advisable to be optimally prepared.
Public transport is recommended for the journey.
The return journey is just as uncomplicated: From the Turtmann Valley, bus and train will conveniently take you back to Turtmann.
