Circular hike - Veste-Heldburg route - Heldburg

The route leads from the town to the regional recreation area 'Kuhsee', where the hiker can enjoy peaceful tranquility amidst green landscape. After a short rest, the path leads to the 'Green House', the historic hunting armory of Duke Georg II of Saxe-Meiningen.

The highlight of the circular route is the Veste Heldburg, which can already be explored and has been home to the German Castle Museum since 2015. The Veste Heldburg, dating back to the 12th century, towers over the Heldburger Land on a 403 m high phonolite rock. In good weather, the hiker is rewarded from the 45 m high tower with a magnificent panoramic view reaching the Veste Coburg, the Thuringian Forest, the Rhön, the Franconian Jura, the Hassberge, and the Franconian Forest. From the castle, the path leads back through the castle forest to the starting point at the marketplace of the town Heldburg.
