The large contiguous forest area of the Dammbachs and Kohl valleys has for centuries been a preferred recreational area for residents, spa guests, and tourists. It offers highly varied landscapes, an interesting flora and fauna, and diverse human uses. Historically, this area also has a lot of interesting information to offer.
Much of this is conveyed very clearly and vividly by the nature experience trail between Bad Berka and Blankenhain. At more than 20 stations, it reveals not only many secrets and interesting information about the plants and animals found here but also invites you to marvel, observe, listen, smell, play, balance, or simply rest. This trail was created in close cooperation between the forestry office and the Bad Berka tourist information. The large panels and stations are complemented by small field panels that explain the meaning of the individual field names.
The trail starts at the Catholic Church in Bad Berka and runs along the Ilmtal cycle route to the barbecue hut. At the barbecue hut, turn left into the Dreiteich valley until you reach the Carl-Alexander square in the Dammbachs valley. The path then continues in the direction of the Kohl valley and the integrated bee and insect circular trail. Shortly afterwards follow the Kohl valley hut and Saint Hubert's hut. On the way you also pass the Schönblick hut before shortly afterwards reaching the outdoor pool of Blankenhain.

From the direction of Weimar or Rudolstadt (B 85) turn right or left at the Ilmenau junction into the town centre and follow the signs to the car park.
From Ilmenau go straight at the junction to Weimar/Rudolstadt into the town centre and follow the signs to the car park.
Arrival by bus and train possible. Starting point is within walking distance.
Town centre car park (clearly signposted on the local signposts); free parking as well as caravan pitch; from there about 400 m on foot to the tourist information.
