On the way to the Ostpreussenhütte, you hike through the market town of Werfen and can at the first break, perhaps by the water basin with the relaxation benches, look down at the houses of the town. Over the meadows and through the forest to the Dielalm, if it is open (currently closed!!), definitely stop by, the view is unique! Then continue on forest roads, over meadows and alpine pastures, where in summer, the cows and horses of our farmers graze, up to the Ost, as the hut is lovingly called. You are well looked after by the hosts. Regional cuisine, homemade cake, and a breathtaking panorama compensate for the partly strenuous ascent. Those who haven’t had enough yet continue on to the Gamskarkögel, which is reachable in about an hour. Or are you even on the way to the Matrashaus? That’s a different story............

You start at the marketplace in Werfen, walk up Poststraße, always heading towards the ice stock rink. After the ice stock rink, turn left and after a few minutes, at the fork, turn right, always stay on path 401. For the next half hour, you walk on the road over the Gschwandtanger, where scenes from "Sound of Music" were filmed, past the Gschwandt farm, keep right. Shortly after, you leave the road and take the left side back onto hiking path 401, which leads you to the Dielalm in 20 minutes (unfortunately, the Dielalm is currently closed!!)
There, you will find a great playground for running around, a petting zoo with dwarf goats, rabbits, and chickens, a huge sun terrace with endless views, and not to forget the excellent dishes made from their own produce.
If you are not so good on foot, you can also reach the Dielalm within a few minutes by car, please use the paid parking lot. This spot is worth a visit anyway.
Continue behind the Dielalm next to the large paid parking lot, the first few hundred meters through the forest, then you come onto the forest road. Always following path 401 it goes alternately through the forest and on the forest road over Schwarzkogel, where there is a junction on the right that leads back down into the valley, via paths 13, 13a, and 19.
For those who want to go further up: after some time, you leave the forest and reach the pasture and alpine plateau of Blienteckalm. You cross this large meadow before hiking the last part through a forest again. After that, you can already see the hut.
For all hikers who haven't had enough yet, it goes on for another hour to the Gamskarkogel.
If you prefer to stay at the Ostpreussenhütte, the hosts will spoil you with local and homemade dishes and cakes. You can also spend the night at the hut.
You can take the same route back or choose the previously mentioned fork via Sonneck, which also brings you back to Werfen.
Tip: There are some geocaches hidden along the route!!
