Krimml: Alpine hike to the Zittauer Hut

Starting from Gasthof Finkau, the hiker reaches the Leitenkammerklamm via a well-developed path. Viewing platforms offer an impressive insight into the world of the gorge. Along the stream, white-throated dippers as well as grey wagtails and alpine wagtails can be observed.

After passing the steep section, the striking trough valley of the Wildgerlostal opens up around the Trisslalm (1,584 m). From here, trail no. 540 ascends gently to the material cable car. On debris slopes and in the rugged trough walls, pristine pine stands up to an altitude of 2,000 m give the valley a special atmosphere. While the stone-strewn meadows form the habitat of marmots, the nutcracker has a symbiotic relationship with the pine.

From the material cable car (1,888 m), the trail passes through a blockfield and ascends a partly secured path leading to the distinctive "1850 moraine" of the Wildgerlos glacier. In this area, if you're lucky, the very rare wallcreeper can be spotted. The final ascent to the Zittauer Hut (2,328 m) and the Lower Wildgerlos lake passes over glacier-polished slabs.
