Filzenkopf circular hike

From Filzensattel, go a short distance on the federal road towards Hinterthal to the Hochmaisalm parking lot. Here we follow path no. 34 towards Aueralm. Now we have to cross the federal road again to be able to follow path no. 34a to Aueralm. Upon arrival at Aueralm, you can take a short break, because it then goes straight to Mußbachalm on path no. 401a. We pass Mußbachalm and follow path no. 401a towards Pichlalm. Now we have conquered the last ascent. From there, it goes downhill again on trail no. 68. Shortly before you arrive back at Filzensattel, you meet a forest road, which also leads downhill back to Filzensattel.

Self-assessment: Check your physical fitness before every mountain tour and correctly assess your strength as well as that of your companions – especially your children! Sure-footedness and a head for heights are often very important!

Planning and preparation: Plan each intended mountain tour carefully beforehand. Hiking maps and guides as well as information from alpine clubs and locals such as mountain guides and hut hosts can be helpful.

Equipment: On the mountain, you need appropriate equipment and clothing, especially sturdy, high footwear with a grippy sole. Weather and cold protection are indispensable, as the weather can often change suddenly.

Togetherness: Observe the 10 rules for the proper handling of grazing animals and do not leave any waste in nature!

Do not dislodge stones: Do not dislodge stones, because this seriously endangers other hikers. Marked areas with rockfall hazard should be crossed as quickly and attentively as possible.

Turn back in time: This is no disgrace, but a sign of prudence. It becomes necessary when the weather changes, fog sets in, or the path is too difficult or not in good condition.

Arrival coming from Salzburg: On the A10 motorway to the Bischofshofen exit, then on the B311 towards Bischofshofen. Follow Hochkönig federal road/B164 to Maria Alm.
Arrival coming from Innsbruck/Kufstein: On the Loferer road/B178 towards St. Johann i.T., then via Hochkönig federal road/B164 via Saalfelden to Maria Alm.
A valid vignette is required for the use of the Austrian motorway and expressway network. There is also a carry-along obligation for a first aid kit, warning triangle, and warning vest. More information at Asfinag.
