Fitness: Stamina for about 1.5 hours of uphill hiking with 300 meters of elevation gain. Total walking time about 3.5 hours.
Briefly: The route mostly follows a hiking trail through Almenwelt Lofer. In the last section of the ascent, there are a few smaller passages that require sure-footedness and possibly occasional use of hands for scrambling. However, the path is at no point exposed or at risk of falling. The return journey also follows hiking trails or forest roads but is significantly more relaxed over a ridge. There are dining options along the route at the Alpengasthof Schönblick or Restaurant Soderkaser at the end of the route near the gondola station.
Route highlights: The Almenwelt Lofer with its rustic alpine huts and countless cows... and of course the summit experience on the Grubhörndl. Don't forget your summit photo and to sign the summit register ;) There is also a large playground at the mountain station of Almbahn II.
The route is part of the "Hiking with Kids" in the Salzburger Saalachtal. Duration and difficulty level are designed for children/families.
Past the Soderkaser restaurant and the Stegerkaser, a short stretch downhill before you turn right after about 100 meters and follow path no. 201A up to the Grubhörndl. The route mainly follows nicely laid out hiking trails. In the last section of the ascent, there are a few spots for scrambling. After the break at the summit of the Grubhörndl at 1747 meters, take variant 01 in the upper section until you return to the forest road. Follow the forest road past Haus Schönblick and continue to the Soderkaser and the mountain station of Almbahn II – the start and finish of the route.

In addition to a water bottle, we recommend sturdy footwear, warm clothing and rain protection, mobile phone, sunglasses and sun protection (e.g. cap), as well as a small snack.
Via B178 or B311 to Lofer. The valley station of Almbahn I is located directly in the center.
Take bus lines 260 or 4012 to the stop "Lofer Mittelschule - Tourismusverband".
After a 5-minute walk, you will reach the gondola to Almenwelt Lofer. Take the Almbahn I and II gondola all the way to the top. The start of the route is at the mountain station of Almbahn II.
Free parking available at the valley station of Almbahn I or on the large parking lot at the tourism office (5 minutes on foot).
Those who still have the desire and strength can make a short detour to the Red Marble Lake on the way back.
