Even if your feet are burning: the gain of the pilgrimage is incomparably higher than the exertions. It anchors you, these persevering walkers say, deep in nature, allows you to understand completely different dimensions of life. An ancient mechanism fascinates us in today's fast-moving times. Or perhaps it is precisely for this reason. Many people experience pilgrims as a source of strength for body, mind and soul. Every step, every hour, every day that we consciously walk gives new strength. The unspoilt landscape around the legendary Hochkönig favours this process, allowing you to find yourself quickly and to focus on the essential. The paths lead partly through unspoilt nature, forests and meadows, over ups and downs, past beautiful valleys, martyrs and field chapels, streams and lakes.

Start your pilgrimage with a short prayer in the parish church of Mühlbach, which is dedicated to St. Sebastian. Even today, pilgrimages from the surrounding parishes take place on 20th January, the Sebastian Day, to pray for health for the whole year. Passing the show mine you follow paths 87 and 88 to the Elmaugut where you walk a little along the main road before path 90 leads you to the Stegmoosalm. From here you follow trail no. 401A to the Erichhütte. After Dienten you descend via the Wirtsalm (trail nr. 66), past the Schnegghof and the Schneggkapelle (trail nr. 65). The trail from Dienten begins at the small church on the mountain. Stay there for a short while, enjoy the peace and quiet and the magnificent view and ask for the blessing of St. Nicholas, who is not only the patron saint against the dangers of the water, but also the oldest patron saint of travellers. Trail no. 50 leads past the "House of Silence" to the Filzensattel. Passing a chapel, the path first follows the road and then branches off onto trail nr. 34 towards Hinterthal. Enjoy the view of the Steinerne Meer with the Wildalmkirchl. Follow trail 401A, which after a further climb takes you to the Jufensattel with the Jufen chapel and continues over the Natrunhöhe. From here the descent to Maria Alm takes you directly to the pilgrimage church, which is one of the most beautiful Marian shrines in the Pinzgau.

planning and preparation: Plan every intended mountain tour in advance. Hiking maps and guides as well as information from alpine clubs and local experts such as mountain guides and hut keepers can be helpful.
equipment: On the mountain, you need appropriate equipment and clothing, especially sturdy, high footwear with a non-slip sole. Weather and cold protection are essential, as the weather can often change unexpectedly.

togetherness: Observe the 10 rules for the correct handling of grazing animals and do not leave any waste in nature!
do not kick stones: Do not step on stones, as this can seriously endanger other hikers. Marked places where there is a risk of falling rocks should be crossed as quickly as possible and with attention and caution.
turn back in good time: This is not a disgrace, but a sign of common sense. It becomes necessary when the weather changes, fog sets in, and also when the path is too difficult or not in good condition.
