Görlitz is a city which is not only characterised by a beautiful architecture but also by a varied park landscape. The tour starts at one of the oldest landscape parks in Germany. More than 500 years ago a copy of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem was built in Görlitz. In the surrounding area also the "Ölberggarten", the Kidron stream and the Via Dolorosa were created. St. Nicholas' Cemetery is located only a few steps from the "Ölberggarten". It is one of the most beautiful baroque cemeteries in Germany.
Via Nikolaistraße you will reach the entrance of another beautiful park called Nikolaizwinger. Walk behind St. Peter's church to the Uferstraße where the entrance of the Ochsenbastei is located. This park can be recommended, particularly when the wisteria is in bloom. At the exit of the Ochsenbastei follow the Bergstraße to the Uferpark. The way continues through the vineyard area along the Neisse River to the Berggarten and ends at the Kreuzkirchenpark in Reuterstraße.
The tour takes you trough Nikolaizwinger and Ochsenbastei. These are parts of the preserved medieval double city wall. The areas between the inner and the outer city wall were converted into beautiful green spaces by the Görlitz landscape gardener Henry Kraft.
If you continue walking to the city park, you will pass the Uferpark, which once was industrial wasteland. The Görlitz city park was created according to plans of the landscape gardener Lenné. You will find many old and rare trees here. There is a sundial in the rose terrace and the Meridianstein (meridian stone) marks the course of the 15th meridian. The "Park des Friedens" with the memorial of the famous Jacob Böhme is located only a few metres behind the city park. The shoemaker became world-famous as a philosopher. Walk along the Neisse River bank to the Neisse Viaduct. You will pass the Obermühle where it is possible to stop and to relax. The Friedenshöhe - a park with a long history - is located above the Neisse Viaduct. The name "Friedenshöhe" is for the viewpoint in front of the log cabin, and commemorates the end of the Franco-German War in 1871.
Towards the end of the tour, you will reach the vineyard area with the closed Weinberghaus. Close to the Weinberghaus the park railway runs which is a scaled down replica of the "Adler" locomotive. Children really love the park railway and the playground. Near the park railway is the Schellergrund. The adjoining area of the Berggarten, about 1 hectare in size, slopes towards the south and is characterised by a large meadow with plantings of deciduous and coniferous trees.

Nikolaizwinger and Ochsenbastei are usually only open from April to October.

Visit the Holy Sepulchre, St. Nicholas' Church and St. Peter's Church. The Ölberggarten is particularly beautiful when the daffodils are in bloom.
