Rohrendorf bei Krems

Welcome to Rohrendorf - an idyllic village full of cultural treasures, nestled charmingly just 4 km east of Krems on the Danube. Situated in the delightful Krems Valley, this wine-growing village is a true gem for wine enthusiasts. Its history dates back to prehistoric times, as evidenced by numerous finds from various epochs, including the later Stone Age, the Hallstatt period, and the Migration Period. A particularly significant discovery was the unearthing of a Lombardic burial ground in 1956 during gravel extraction works.

The settlement of Rohrendorf occurred in various phases, with in 1113 the Babenberg Margrave Leopold III handing over the estate of Radingdorf (today Oberrohrendorf) to Melk Abbey. During this time, mainly ecclesiastical landlords in the region established vineyards. The picturesque linear village extends across the districts of Oberrohrendorf, Unterrohrendorf, Neustift, and Neuweidling, offering its approximately 2000 residents an area of 978 hectares.
