In winter, the route serves as an excellent place to watch the northern lights and admire the starry sky among snow-laden trees, just a few steps from village services. In summer, the scenic trail invites you to admire the midnight sun and the fell landscapes of Ruka.
The Ruka scenic trail is a peaceful and easily accessible option when you want a short hike in nature.
There is guidance from the village of Ruka to the starting point of the route. The guidance begins at the Tykky Observation Tower. The route is marked with blue and white trail signs.
It is recommended to wear appropriate outdoor clothing and sturdy shoes for the route.
Snowshoes can be rented from several companies in the Ruka area. Rental locations and contact information can be found on the Ruka.fi website.

The route starts from the village of Ruka at Rukankyläntie 9, 93830 Rukatunturi.
Nearest airport: Kuusamo (27 km). There is a regular bus connection between the airport and Kuusamo, as well as Ruka, according to flight schedules. Bus timetables to Kuusamo airport can be found on the Matkahuolto website.

In winter 2026, the Polar Night Light Festival light installation. The Polar Night Light Festival is the world's northernmost ski slope light installation illuminating the Kuru slopes, Front slopes, and the village of Ruka in stunning colors and lights.
The scenic route is also an excellent place to view the Polar Night Light lights.
