At the northwest end of the lake, Kuivasniemi, there is a metal-structured birdwatching tower offering the best view of the lake. Next to it is another smaller wooden tower/platform, ideal for birdwatching. Both Kutajärvi and the adjacent Vesijärvi bays are part of the national birdwater protection program and the Natura 2000 network. The lake, together with the bays of Vesijärvi, also forms part of the Ramsar area, a globally important wetland conservation agreement.
