The route suggestion presents peaceful areas of Lake Vesijärvi at Kirkonlahti and Kajaanselkä. The route passes through valuable bird waters and rural landscapes, stops at Hännysaari’s excellent resting place, slips through pleasant narrows between islands, and continues along the shores of Kajaanselkä. In the distant view, you can see the wooded ridges of the Salpausselkä Geopark area.
On the open Kajaanselkä, choose the route according to the winds - in good weather, an experienced paddler can also detour to the Kajaankallio rock in the middle of the open water.

The route is not marked on the waters but is a suggested example route.
Continue south to Hollola Messilänranta or circle the whole Lake Vesijärvi. From Vääksy, you can also connect to the region’s long, multi-day hiking routes.

The paddling dock at Hännysaari is located on the west side of the cape, about 100 m south from the boat docks.
You can also spend the night at Hännysaari, though tent sites are scarce while hammock spots are more available.
On the northern shore of Lake Vesijärvi, there are small swimming spots maintained by village associations where you can stop for a break.
At Kajaankallio, the best landing spot is on the east side of the southern tip.
If you paddle through the Vääksy canal, the landing place is at the guest marina immediately after the canal on the right.
Heading south from Kajaanselkä you can aim for Hollola Messilänranta (about 24 km one way from Hollola church village) or Lahti (about 26-29 km), see the Two Canals route.
At the southern point of the route, Hollola church village and at the northern end the Vääksy canal area each offer sights for those interested in nature and cultural history. Climb the castle hill of Kapatuosia in Hollola or Aurinkovuori in Vääksy to see magnificent water and forest landscapes.
Spend a relaxing summer day enjoying the unhurried village atmosphere and summer services. Stop for a swim and a café terrace!
In Vääksy, get extra experiences by paddling into the canal and slipping into the small jungle-like Vääksy River.
The route can be paddled in either direction; you can also start from Vääksy. For fitness enthusiasts, a challenge could be to circle the entire Lake Vesijärvi - in a day or two!
