Heilbronner circular trail

From Obertraun (510 m), the Dachstein Krippeinstein cable car takes you up 1,600 meters in altitude. At Krippenstein (2,100 m) you can look out over the immensely wide Dachstein plateau.
From the mountain station of the Dachstein Krippenstein cable car, the well-maintained trail leads over hilly terrain densely covered withmountain pines.

After a 45-minute walk, you will reach the Dachstein shark, the latest attraction on the circular hiking trail. It is particularly popular with younger hikers, as it can not only be admired from the outside, but you can also climb inside the shark and marvel at the beautiful landscape through its mouth. The Dachstein shark therefore quickly became a popular photo spot.

After another 45 minutes, the circular hiking trail leads you to the Heilbronn Cross. This cross commemorates the tragedy on the Dachstein at Easter in 1954, when 10 pupils from Heilbronn and 3 teachers lost their lives during a hike into the Dachstein massif when the weather fell.

Continue in a westerly direction - past the Hirzkarsee lake - to Krippeneck to the Gjaidstation of the Dachstein Krippenstein cable car (another 1.5 hours). Take another 15-minute walk to enjoy refreshments on the terrace of the Gjaid Alm. Afterwards, you can take all three sections of the cable car over the Krippenstein back down to the valley!


Our tip: make a stopover at the Dachstein Krippenstein. Take another 2 hours and visit the "5fingers" viewing platform and the World Heritage Spiral. The fantastic view of the entire World Heritage region will reward you. Refreshments are available at the Lodge am Krippenstein as well as at the Dachstein Krippenstein mountain restaurant.
