Leisure bike route: The lake of the Triouzoune

This route opens the doors to the remarkable lake of the Triouzoune. Covering an area of 410 hectares, this seven-kilometre-long reservoir was created following the construction of the Neuvic hydroelectric dam. Its privileged location in preserved nature makes it today an ideal holiday destination. A day full of emotions and discoveries awaits you!

Before setting off to cycle around the lake, take advantage of your presence to visit the beautiful town of Neuvic up close. Located on a plateau near the gorges of the Haute-Dordogne, the town overlooks, from its approximately 670 metres altitude, the two tributaries of the Dordogne: the Triouzoune and the Luzège.

A true land of history, Neuvic has been known since the 11th-12th centuries as a town dependent on the viscounty of Ventadour, with its impressive castle and prestigious literary renown linked to the enthusiasm of medieval troubadours. The town has preserved part of its fortifications, the remains of which can still be easily distinguished in the oldest streets of the town. Moreover, three towers dominate the surroundings: the tower of the Hôtel Saint Maixent, the tower of the Five Stones (the location of the Tourist Office), and the Veilhan tower, visible from the rue du Commerce.

For a bucolic excursion, enjoy a walk within the arboretum of the Neuvic d'Ussel castle. Covering 6.5 ha, this landscaped agricultural park created in 1815 extends over very hilly terrain with a highest point at 634 m. Designed in the tradition of English parks, the arboretum offers visitors varied landscapes thanks to the presence of nearly 350 species of trees and shrubs.

Be sure also to visit the Henri Queuille Departmental Resistance Museum, located in the former house of the resistant and politician Henri Queuille. Now that Neuvic holds no secrets for you, it is time for the whole family to return to the lake for a pleasant bike ride!

Halfway through your route, stop to venture to the Puy de Manzagol. From the summit of the Puy, the viewpoint overlooks the Triouzoune lake, the Pellachal bridge, and further away, it is also possible to see the Monédières.

To finish beautifully, the trail offers you a passage over the Triouzoune Dam! The structure was built from 1942 to 1945 on the Triouzoune river (which originates on the Millevaches plateau).
