Route 2: Around Brilon

The route over the Brilon high plateau starts and ends in the heart of the old Hanseatic city of Brilon with its historic town hall at the timber-framed surrounded marketplace. Discover some of the charming villages of Brilon and the geological features of this area.

The journey starts at the Brilon marketplace, close to junction 48, passing the Jägerhof down into Friedrichstraße to Hubertusstraße, at the roundabout take the 3rd exit (Keffelker Street) and before the railway crossing turn right into Galmeistraße.

The path continues above the hospital out of the city, towards Bürgerwald in Petersborn. From there it goes through the Hilbringsetal to the Hiebammen Hut and loops through the forest to the quarry. Shortly after the large intersection is passed straight ahead, and then the route leads left down to the Aamühlen and into the Aa valley.

After passing the B480 it goes uphill towards Wülfte and you reach the Brilon high plateau. The route continues to Alme with one of the largest spring discharges in Germany – the Alme springs. Then on to Nehden with the dinosaur find site and the district of Thülen. Afterwards you again reach the city limits of Brilon and pass Brilon's largest employer – the company Egger. Then it goes on Keffelker Street back to the starting point at the Brilon marketplace.
