This hike also starts at the Weitenegg Recreation Center. Head west, and after about 1 km you’ll reach the footbridge in Urfahr (Donauseerunde). Cross the bridge and continue to the right. After about 2 km, you’ll come to a remnant of a floodplain forest (a natural monument) and will already be able to see the beavers’ “worksites.” In the evening hours, you can also spot these shy animals. You’ll also see various ducks, as well as the rare kingfisher. After about 500 m, you’ll cross a footbridge and walk back to the starting point along the other bank.

Take the A1 to the Melk exit—drive along the B3a across the Danube, then merge onto the B3 and continue to Weitenegg
