Thayatalweg 630 - Stage 3: Gmünd - Eugenia

<p>Through the Malerwinkel we reach Grillenstein and thus the entrance to the Blockheide. Like a Nordic island, the area lies amid the borderland of the upper Waldviertel. The most beautiful natural monuments are the Pilzstein, Christophstein, Wackelstein, Teufelsbett, Teufelsbrotlaib, and Schullerstein. However, the Thayatalweg does not pass all these rock formations but leads directly to the center of the Blockheide with the viewing tower, from which you have a panoramic view of the Gmünd basin and the borderland. After the Blockheide, you reach Großeibenstein and then the forester's lodge in Ludwigsthal. There, the Eisenwurdenweg 08, which so far ran parallel to the Thayatalweg, branches off to the left. We, however, follow the path junction to the right, pass the St. Hubertus wayside shrine, and then cross the federal road Schrems-Neunagelberg. The path continues on forest trails, and after another road crossing, we reach Eugenia near Schrems.</p>
