From the village, the route leads through Oberndorf and takes the path along the Melk river. Continue along the L5247 and later turn right towards Holzwies. Now back on the main road, which leads through the Schußgraben with 3 stream bridges. The tour continues left at Mühlgraben to the long ascent to Schweinzberghöhe. During a challenging descent on a gravel path to Rotte Strauchen, you have wonderful views over the entire northern Mostviertel region. Once you reach the main road, keep right and after approx. 500 m turn left towards Straß. First you take an asphalt road, then a gravel path over the Hasenberg hill, then to the crossing at Bogenhof, cross the B29 main road and continue to the Melk river. Before reaching the Melk bridge, turn left to return to the starting point along the riverbank.
The starting point of the Alpine Foothills Route is the parking lot in front of the municipal office. From here, the route initially leads through Oberndorf, turns left before the Unimarkt into the residential street Birkenweg, and later takes the state road L5247 towards Kirnberg. Shortly before Lehen, turn right towards Holzwies. A little later, keep right to get onto the state road that leads through the Schußgraben with 3 creek bridges. The route continues left at the Mühlgraben towards the long ascent to the Schweinzberg height. During a challenging descent on a gravel path to the hamlet of Strauchen, there are wonderful views over the entire northern Mostviertel. Upon reaching the state road, keep right and after about 500 m, turn left towards the road. First, it is an asphalt road; then it continues on a gravel path over the Hasenberg hill, then downhill to the junction with the state road, into which you turn left. Here the road continues downhill to the junction near Bogenhof, crosses the state road B29, and continues to the Melk river. Just before the Melk bridge, turn left to leisurely return along the riverbank to the starting point.
Please note the winter closure of this and all other MTB routes in the Mostviertel from 1 November to 14 April.
