The Sky Seeker's Trail guides the traveler through beautiful forests up the fell slope to a treeless summit. From the observation tower on the summit, you can see particularly magnificent views of the old Sallatunturi fells on the Russian side: Sallatunturi, Väliunturi, and Rohmoiva. From the summit of Iso Pyhätunturi, you can also admire the winter forests, ponds, and small mires of Salla National Park, which spread out before the hiker as a diverse mosaic. From the summit, you can also see views northwards over commercial forests. Under suitable weather conditions, the route allows passage through a fairy-tale-like magnificent snow-laden forest.

The route starts from the Northern slopes parking area, following the UKK route marked with red squares for 250 meters. The border of Salla National Park is crossed just before the power line and the first junction. Turn right at the junction to start the blue square marked route towards the summit of Iso-Pyhätunturi. At first, the route is easy to walk and passes through an old mixed forest dominated by spruce. As you climb higher, the path becomes more demanding and steep. The fell summit often greets visitors with a windy, bare fell top and the Iso Pyhätunturi observation tower with splendid views.
The route continues down from the summit towards the south, and just after the summit, even more magnificent views open over the fell ponds. After the open fell, conditions permitting, the path descends into a beautiful snow-laden forest. The path descends the fell ridge and through the forest down from the fell, following the last section of Itärintee Road before returning to the starting point.
The route can also be started from the Fell Center, passing the Northern slopes via Keselmäjärvi by road, which makes the distance 4.3 km one way. However, this route has no separate signs or markings.

Winter hiking is enjoyable if you stay warm. Remember to dress in layers suitable for the weather, gloves, and headwear. Add more clothing during breaks.
Bring snacks, drinks, warm clothing, a charged phone, map, first aid kit, and a trash bag.
The route is not illuminated. Note that in winter, weather conditions can change quickly and it may be very windy on the fell’s summit.
Dress warmly, especially protecting your toes, fingers, and head. Bring extra gloves and socks. Carry drinks and food.
Follow signs and markings; always carry a map and your phone with you.

Salla National Park is located in Eastern Lapland, about 150 km from Rovaniemi and 65 km from Kemijärvi. The closest airport is in Rovaniemi and the closest railway station in Kemijärvi.
The nearest airports are Kuusamo (1.5 hours) and Rovaniemi (2 hours). From Kuusamo, airport bus transfers to Salla are available from almost every flight.
The nearest railway station is in Kemijärvi (1 hour). There is a bus connection from the night train to Salla Monday to Saturday.
Free parking at the starting point at the foot of the northern slopes.
The route includes steep climbs. Approaching the fell's summit, there are stairs without winter maintenance. There is an observation tower on the fell’s summit. The steps of the stairs or those of the observation tower may be slippery, snowy, or difficult to walk on. Along the route, there are no separate rest or campfire sites, toilets, or water points.
