We start after an excellent breakfast at Cafe Sonnenland and drive towards Bahia Feliz - Agüimes - Santa Lucia de Tirajana - Tejeda - Fataga - Arteara - San Fernando - Maspalomas - Arguineguin - Puerto de Mogan. With some narrow roads, one is then quite glad to explore the landscape on just two wheels. Partially our excursion leads along the coast and we are impressed by the landscape here. Gran Canaria has many roads that are perfectly developed, our route can be planned perfectly as a circular route. Depending on desire and endurance.

Experiences Gran Canaria
We just set off spontaneously because it is the nicest that way. At first, we relied on the route planner but then made our way without any guidance.

Arrival by car / caravan
A rather unusual but still possible way for many holidaymakers to arrive is by car.
Gran Canaria also offers good conditions for campers, i.e. holidaymakers with a caravan or motorhome, and those who do not want to do without their vehicle on site but want to avoid the costs of a rental car can reach even the most remote places on the island with their own car.
Arrival by car is from Germany via France to Spain, and from the Spanish mainland by car ferry finally to Gran Canaria. Depending on your starting point, you cover between 2,000 and 3,000 kilometers by land.
After covering this distance, you reach the coast of the Spanish mainland. From one of two port towns, Cadiz or Huelva, car ferries run between Gran Canaria, the other Canary Islands, and the Spanish mainland that bring you to Las Palmas in 28 to 42 hours as the penultimate travel stage. The last few kilometers on the island are then the easiest part of your journey: via the well-developed road network of Gran Canaria you reach your holiday destination.
Traveling with your own vehicle is primarily a time-consuming decision. You cover a total of 4,000 to 5,000 kilometers from Germany. Depending on your daily driving distance, you need to allow several days just for the drive to the Spanish coast. Especially travelling with a caravan or motorhome requires additional time. The ferry crossing adds up to two travel days. You must, of course, allow the same time for the return journey.
Whether travel by land makes financial sense compared to flying depends not least on the number of travelers. The one-way flight to Gran Canaria, during the usual summer holiday period, is offered by various airlines for under 150 euros.
Traveling with your own vehicle is therefore particularly worthwhile for longer holidays where the journey is part of the holiday experience and not just a means to an end.
Arrival by plane
For many holidaymakers, the obvious way to get to Gran Canaria is a flight from one of the major airports in Germany. Various airlines offer both direct flights and flights with stopovers. A direct flight to Gran Canaria takes about four to five hours.
The prices for a flight to Gran Canaria depend on the airline and also vary significantly depending on the time of year.
