Hidden and from afar, actually quite inconspicuous, the Peterlewand lies hidden among the trees near St. Urban. During the Counter-Reformation, Peterlewand was a strategically important point and is also described in the book by Gustav Renker "The People without a Homeland." The first routes were established around 1988 by a then approximately 16-18-year-old student from Bodensdorf. Over the years, the climbing garden was somewhat neglected before it was completely removed from the climbing guide.
In spring 2015, the Peterlewand was literally awakened from its deep sleep. The existing sport climbing routes of Peterlewand were renovated and expanded with new interesting routes as well as via ferrata variants for beginners and advanced climbers.
enhanced.
Wall character
Peterlewand is a stretched rock face made of solid primary rock, east-facing and about 8 to 35 m high. It is also light, in places even strongly and roof-like overhanging. From the Peterlewand itself, climbers repeatedly enjoy picturesque views of Lake Ossiach. A few wall areas are vertical or slightly inclined. The grip offers predominantly varied edges and numerous rounded laybacks. Despite these often athletic demands, there are sufficient opportunities for entry into climbing.
In addition to the via ferrata variants, 26 sport climbing routes of various difficulty levels have been bolted and renovated.
Via ferrata: six variants, two of which are in the A/B range, three of which are in the B/C range, and one more difficult route with a crux section rated C/D (difficult to very difficult).
Here is the topo of the via ferratas.
Sport climbing routes: 26 routes from difficulty 4+ to 7a. Most routes are rather in the more difficult range.
