Eleven Cities bike route

The first Eleven Cities route was held on January 2, 1909, and has taken place annually since then. Traditionally, it involves skating through 11 Frisian cities that have existed for centuries – provided it is cold and the ice is solid enough.

But not only on skates is this round route a pleasure; the Eleven Cities route by bike is the best way to get to know Friesland. On one hand, the beautiful landscape enchants along this round route, but the eleven cities themselves also captivate visitors. They vary greatly – just in terms of their size: Sloten has only around 900 inhabitants, Leeuwarden, on the other hand, over 90,000.
