Arrival by car
Berlin is well connected via a dense highway network (A100, A113, A9, A2, A24). There are various parking options in the city, from parking garages to public parking lots. However, note that there is an environmental zone in the city center for which an emissions sticker is required.
Getting to Berlin is convenient and diverse, whether you travel by plane, train, car, or bus. Here are some of the most common options:
Arrival by plane
Berlin has two main airports:
Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER): The new airport, opened in October 2020, is located about 18 kilometers southeast of the city center. It offers national and international connections. From the airport, you can reach the city center by train (regional trains and S-Bahn), taxi, or shuttle buses.
Arrival by train
Berlin Central Station (Berlin Hauptbahnhof): This is the city's main train station and one of the largest in Europe. Both long-distance trains (ICE, IC, EC) and regional trains stop here. Traveling by train is especially comfortable since many cities in Germany and Europe are directly connected to Berlin.
Arrival by bus
Long-distance buses offer an affordable way to travel to Berlin. Several providers, such as FlixBus and Blablabus, regularly run from various cities in Germany and Europe to Berlin. The central stop for long-distance buses is at ZOB Berlin (central bus station).
Public transport in Berlin
After arriving in Berlin, you can comfortably explore the city using public transport. The network of U-Bahn, S-Bahn, trams, and buses is very well developed and easy to use. It is recommended to purchase a day ticket or a Berlin Welcome Card to make traveling in the city easier.
Parking options in Berlin
In all twelve Berlin districts, numerous parking garages are available where you can park your vehicle. Note that parking fees tend to increase the closer you get to the city center. Parking on public streets is also possible. If you find a free parking space, make sure to observe the signs indicating the need for a parking ticket. You can obtain this at a parking meter. There are many paid parking zones in Berlin's city center. An overview of all parking zones can be found here.

A bike ride through the metropolis Berlin is the perfect middle ground between a city walk on foot or a bus tour. On the bike, you are quickly on the move and can also ride into the smaller alleys. What is nicer than cycling along the river promenade?
Sharing only makes sense if you are traveling from A to B. If you want to keep a bike for a few hours, a day, or longer, you should rent it.
