St. Barbara Church in Bärnbach is one of the most distinctive landmarks of the Lipizzanerheimat region. Designed by the Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, the church combines sacred architecture with his unmistakable artistic style and is regarded as an important cultural and architectural attraction.
Its colourful tower, golden dome, curved lines and richly detailed façade create a striking appearance that reflects Hundertwasser’s vision of harmony between people, nature and creativity. Surrounding the church, a processional pathway with twelve arches further enhances the connection between architecture, landscape and spirituality.
Inside, the deliberately simple interior contrasts with the vibrant exterior. Works by regional artists complement the church’s artistic concept, while selected elements designed by Hundertwasser can be found around the altar and baptismal font.
