The Mammoth Route is ideal for families: On the Ant Trail, the forest ant Amalie accompanies big and small explorers through the forest. Nature sights such as the Gnadensee View, the Galgenacker, the Simmelried, and the Mammoth Tree connect exciting nature knowledge with emotional experiences. Those who climb the hunting stand in the Ried discover the animal and plant world from a new perspective, and at the interactive "Did you know?" station, the forest growth can be "experienced" with your own steps.
The Mammoth and Hochfirst routes can be combined into a roughly 7.7 km long combination route. To do this, follow the signs for the "Hochfirst Route" at the Hegne sports field.
The Mammoth Route starts at the forest clearing near the parking lot of the "Zum Schwarzenberg" barbecue area. From there, the path leads westward, where two loungers with an impressive view of Lake Gnadensee invite you to linger. At the nature sight "Gnadensee View," an information board offers insight into the legends and history of the lake. Just a few minutes' walk away, the historic "Galgenacker" reveals a dark secret beneath the farmland.
The path continues along the forest edge on the panoramic trail, before turning right into the forest and transitioning into the Ant Trail. On this natural path, there are several child-friendly forest stations that playfully convey knowledge about the forest. At the nature sight "Simmelried," a hunting stand invites you to observe the species-rich insect world of this nature reserve. Past impressive ant hills, the path leads further to an intersection where it makes a left turn and meets a reed meadow. After a short time, it goes right into the forest. A small side path to the left leads to the next nature sight: "Mammoth Tree," where you encounter true giants of nature.
Back on the main path, it leads along a forest road through the woods until a sign indicates a sharp left turn. After another right turn, you reach the "Did you know?" station, which illustrates with a small sprint how slowly or quickly the forest grows. With an increased pulse, follow the signs further until the district road between Hegne and Dettingen, which you carefully cross. On the other side, a small wooden footbridge leads parallel to the road before the path continues on the left along the forest edge. Over a meadow path, it goes through the woods past the horse farm to Hegne. There, the route passes the playground and the inn "Zur Meisterklause" back to the starting point.
