Wild Boar Trail

We start in the center of Bad Boll with the Protestant Collegiate Church of Saint Cyriakus and the Romanesque pillar basilica from the Staufer era. The further route leads us steeply up to the Boller Heide. From here, there is a beautiful view of the Fore-Alb communities, the Filstal valley, and the Drei-Kaiserberge (Three Emperor Mountains). We cross the Boller Heide southwards at the barbecue area and then follow a narrow path along the edge. Next, we proceed on the Katzenhäusleweg to the Dürrnauer Viehaus, where we are once again rewarded with a fantastic view. The Katzenhäusleweg leads us over the Köpfle, past a shelter, to the Galgenbuckel. The Galgenbuckel is the local mountain of the community of Gammelshausen. Here we meet the Leading Quality Trail Albtraufgänger, which we follow down into the town. The hiking trail, which is one of Europe's best trails, accompanies us on the last stretch over the orchard educational path and the Swabian Saying Trail south of Dürrnau until the original ascent path to the Boller Heide. From here, we return to the starting point. 

Wear sturdy, non-slip footwear and weather-appropriate clothing. A backpack with water, snacks, and a first aid kit is recommended.

Some paths may be slippery and dangerous when wet. Watch your step and use hiking poles if necessary for stability.

Coming from Stuttgart or Ulm, leave the A8 at exit 58 “Aichelberg” and follow the L1214 towards Göppingen to the Badstraße intersection. Turn right into Badstraße and drive all the way up and then back down into the town. About 50 meters after the Protestant Collegiate Church, turn left into “An der Wette”. There are parking spaces there as well as if you continue on this street, then left at the town hall. Please do not forget the parking disc.
Coming from Göppingen, drive towards Jebenhausen and shortly after entering Bad Boll, turn left before the gas station into Hauptstraße. Drive all the way up to the town hall, where parking is available.

Take RE5 or MEX 16 from Stuttgart or Ulm to Göppingen. From Göppingen, take lines 920 and 983 to the Bad Boll “Ortsmitte” stop.

Protestant Collegiate Church of St. Cyriakus

In Wiesensteig, a Benedictine monastery was founded in 861, which possessed a relic of St. Cyriakus. Later, the collegiate church in Bad Boll was dedicated to this saint. Around 1140, Countess Berta of Boll donated the Romanesque pillar basilica church. To date, this Romanesque basilica has been preserved in its pure form. The choir of the predecessor church was adopted as a crypt. It had been buried for centuries and was uncovered again in 1951.

Swabian Saying Trail

On the Swabian Saying Trail near Dürrnau, you encounter regional sayings and clever phrases in broad Swabian dialect that take the seriousness out of everyday life. The route offers pearl sayings from the dialect author Michael Wahl with illustrations by Dieter Groß.
