Kornberg circuit
Stopnja težavnosti: T2
The Kornberg loop combines quiet forest paths, sunny juniper heaths and sweeping views over the Upper Fils Valley to create a varied, entertaining and enjoyable tour. From the parking lot at Kornbergsattel,...
On the way, it is worth making a detour to Bertaburg Castle, whose traces of the terrain and remaining walls are still reminiscent of a medieval fortification. Surrounded by rocks and forest, a special atmosphere of nature and history is created here.
Another highlight is the Kornberghütte, which invites you to stop off at the weekend - ideal for a break with a view in the middle of nature. The circular trail then leads back to the starting point via gentle forest paths.
The route is easy to walk, well-marked and perfect for a short tour in between that still offers plenty of scenery and history.

From the "Kornbergsattel" parking lot (between Gruibingen and Gammelshausen), you first walk steeply uphill to the start of the circular hiking trail. Halfway up to the highest point, you reach a vantage point with a bench for your first rest. From here, you have a fantastic view of the Voralb region, the lower Filstal valley and the Drei-Kaiserberge mountains. We now walk along the edge of the eaves slightly uphill towards Bertaburg and enjoy another outstanding view over the Filstal valley. Now follow the path to the left through the light-flooded forest downhill towards Mähdlesberg. At the bottom, turn left and stay on the path towards Mähdlesberg until you reach the Kornbergsteige. Take a sharp left here and follow the path up to the plateau. Now you circle the Kornberg with its varied hedge and meadow structure, with the typical juniper heaths and intact flower meadows. It is now just a few steps to the starting point.

Worth knowing:
Bertaburg was a castle on a spur of the Kornberg. All that remains of it today are two depressions in the terrain between which the castle is said to have been located. The castle was named after Berta von Boll, a well-known Staufer who had a canonry built in Boll. The collegiate church is still in use today. She was also venerated as a saint in Boll for a long time, as she is said to have donated 20 kilograms of flour and bread to each Boll family once a year.
