One of the most geologically interesting valleys in the northern Black Forest is the Rotmurg Valley. The adventure trail "Stones Tell History" provides insight into the structure of the basement rocks and reveals that volcanoes were once active here. Ice age glaciers gave the Rotmurg Valley its current appearance.
The path runs mostly along the Rotmurg from Obertal to Ruhestein. Along the way there are numerous information boards, a small exhibition at the stone hut, a nice playground, and a covered resting place. A return trip from Ruhestein to Obertal by bus is possible.

In the national park area, there are mainly seasonal trail closures in the wildlife protection areas, especially in winter. In particularly sensitive areas, these may extend beyond winter. A detour is signposted in case of closure.
