The start of the route is at the train station in Bad Liebenzell. From here, the Nagold Valley Cycle Path takes you past the monastery Hirsau. A detour is definitely worthwhile here! Then we reach the half-timbered town of Calw with its beautiful old town center. Following the Nagold Valley Cycle Path, we continue through Kentheim, past the Teinach valley to the shepherd town of Wildberg. Here we pass another monastery, the Kloster Maria Reuthin.
Next is the shopping town of Nagold with the great city park directly on the Nagold river. Along the road, it goes to Ebhausen, where we switch to the left side of the Nagold river on the Floesserweg. We follow this until shortly before Altensteig. Once you reach Altensteig, keep right and cycle uphill towards the castle. It is worth a visit; the residential tower of the Old Castle, built in 1230, is considered the only undestroyed castle of the Black Forest. From here, it is not far to the Überberg district where the accommodation for the night is located.
The route can be started at various points since it is a circular route. Due to the option of public transport and the availability of bike rentals on site, Bad Liebenzell, Nagold, and Bad Wildbad are particularly suitable.
We begin our route at the train station in Bad Liebenzell. There are also parking options here. From here, we follow the signs of the Nagold Valley Cycle Path and reach Hirsau. It is worth planning a detour to the fascinating monastery area. Then we continue through the spa park to the Hermann Hesse town of Calw.
Attention: Here the cycle path runs through the pedestrian zone and walking pace is required!
Afterwards, the cycle path runs sometimes along the road, sometimes through the forest, sometimes right along the river until we reach the shepherd town of Wildberg. The cycle path even passes directly by the Schaeferlaufplatz, a large meadow with a natural grandstand, before we reach the Kloster Maria Reuthin. Following the river, we arrive at Nagold. A good place to take a break is the large Kleb City Park! Then the route continues along the track of the former narrow gauge railway "Altensteigerle" along the B28. However, there is little indication of the former railway track here as you cycle on a sidewalk next to the road. In Ebhausen you change from the road to the "Floesserweg".
A gravel path leads through the forest and we pass the Monhardter Wasserstube, an interesting historical monument. Near the power plant just before the junction to Berneck, we return to the Nagold Valley Cycle Path and follow the road to Altensteig. We reach a roundabout and follow the signs of the Nagold Valley Cycle Path towards Erzgrube. At the next sign, we then keep right and cycle towards the old town. It goes over cobblestones through the old town and past the Old Castle. A stop here is recommended!
Then we cycle along Burgstraße, turn left into Dorfer Straße, and at the next opportunity turn right into Gymnasiumstraße. This leads into Überberger Weg. We cycle past the water tower and keep left. We follow Kirchspielweg straight ahead until we reach Altensteig-Überberg and the Landgasthof Hirsch.
A trekking bike or a gravel bike is best suited for the route. Due to the gravel paths, racing bikes are not suitable.
Short sections lead along the B28 and on the L362; special caution is required here.
