Ulrikaweg 6th stage - from Salem to Hegne Monastery

Behind Salem Castle, the well-signposted Prälatenweg leads through a charming landscape of forests, fields, and ponds initially to the Affenberg wildlife enclosure. Hundreds of storks, which are native here, can be seen from afar. The path crosses the country road past the car park and the inn and continues following the Prälatenweg towards Birnau. The well-known pilgrimage church there is considered the most beautiful Baroque church on Lake Constance. The magnificent view from the church's forecourt over Lake Constance to the Swiss Alps and far into the interior remains unforgettable for every visitor.

From Birnau, the well-marked Lake Constance circular hiking trail leads along the lakeshore to Überlingen and over the lively lake promenade to the ferry dock. The ferry trip from Überlingen to Wallhausen across Überlinger See invites you to pause, regenerate, and is a beautiful break in the hiking route.

In Wallhausen, the path leads to a viewpoint above the Ziegelhof horse farm. Here you get a wonderful view of Überlingen See and the previous stage of the Ulrikaweg.

The last pilgrim section leads along forest trails over the Bodanrück to Hegne Monastery, the place where Sister Ulrika Nisch entered the monastery of the Merciful Sisters of the Holy Cross and where, after beatification, she found her final resting place in the crypt.
