Always following the dedicated signage with brown arrows and the inscription Stockalperweg (waymark no. 90), from the Simplon Pass you start descending staying largely in the valley floor, more or less away from the cantonal road. You pass the Hiwe locality, with the hospice built by Baron Stockalper, then continue to Nideralp, Chiusmatte, Engiloch. On a beautiful mule track running alongside the main road, you cross the pastures of Maschihus and reach Egga and then Simplon Dorf. From here the path descends to Gabi and at Alte Kaserme (museum of transport history along the Simplon) begins an exciting route with metal walkways and rope bridges that cross the narrow Gondo Gorge. You pass through the Gondo military fort and finally reach Gondo, a border post.
The Simplon Hospice (now known as the Old Hospice or Alter Spittel). Some sections of the ancient mule track and the Napoleonic Road. The small Walser settlements. The village of Simplon Dorf with massive houses. The Simplon Ecomuseum. Gabi with ruins of an ancient goods storage depot. The evocative Gondo Gorge. The Gondo Military Fort. The Alte Kaserme Museum.
